Troeg's Craft Brewery "Dead Reckoning Porter"

Beer Of the Month

October is the perfect time to enjoy a Porter, (unless it's Jerry Porter...old fantasy nag joke). This Dead Reckoning Porter from the stellar craft brewery we know as "Troeg Brothers" is no exception. An almost inky black color, and sweet caramel malts, with a slighlty bitter, complex hoppy finish. This one will be a favorite of yours throughout the fall, and even into winter. Great paired with hearty stews or a Sunday roast beef & taters.

Flavor Wire

This week's "Flavor Wire" add comes from fellow brew head & fantasy geek, James Noel (who you can follow @JamesFFB on Twitter). His recommendation comes from Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, NY. The town that gave us the Baseball Hall of Fame also is home to a fine Belgian style brewery, and it's Abbey Ale is nothing short of spectacular. This is an almost barley wine concoction, with hints of spice & fruit, and a smooth, satisfying finish. I think a bold pairing is as a dessert beer, with an apple or pumpkin based treat.
