"Hot Garbage" Waiver Wire Week 14 (Tuesday Update & "Flex Luthor" of the Week)

Now that the trade deadline has passed in most fantasy leagues, and the playoffs loom large, dropping players (COLD TRASH) is no longer advisable unless you sustain an injury to your lineup & need to add a player, in which case I give you...

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL UPDATE: No pickups of note, but it's worth considering a speculative pickup of former New England Patriot, Taylor Price, who was released by the Patriots and claimed by the Jaguars. Price is certainly talented, and those bemoaning the fact that Blaine Gabbert has no weapons? Now he does, at least a borderline flex play if he sees the field, unlike his time in New England.

Philip Rivers looks like he has his swagger back, throwing for 294 yds and 3 TDs. Next up is the reeling Bills, and Rivers should see a bump in the rankings in week 14.

Ryan Mathews perplexingly is being babied by Norv Turner, and after breaking off long run after long run, gets yanked in favor of Mike Tolbert at the goal line. Thankfully Mathews found the end zone this week, and as our guy Forbes pointed out on Twitter last night, the first time since week 3. In 2012 fantasy drafts, it's now crucial to draft both Mathews/Tolbert in what could be a frustrating rotation.

Vincent Jackson had a solid game this week ( 4/72 & a TD) and continues his trend of putting up solid numbers every other week. Might just be a coincidence, but go check the numbers.

"Flex Luthor" of the Week  (14):  This week's must start is yet another defense, this time it's the Denver Broncos. The visiting Bears travel to Mile High with Caleb Hanie under center, and Matt Forte out with an MCL sprain. Even without Von Miller in the mix, this looks to be defensive cornucopia of sacks, INTs and FFs. If Miller plays? Lord have mercy.

SUNDAY LATE GAME WRAP-UP:

WR: Andre Roberts/ARZ: With the chinless wonder, Kevin Kolb back in the fold at QB, Andre Roberts was the leading Cards WR vs. DAL (6/111). Pick him up if you're in need at WR, just dont be shocked if Early Doucet bests him in week 14.

RB: Maurice Morris/DET: I liked Morris as a PPR back this week via the @2mugsff podcast, and he came through once again with 5/47 and a TD in "Kevin Faulk-Like" fashion. With Kevin Smith looking like the NFL's version of Rodney Dangerfield, grab Mo-Mo and use him as your flex going forward, or until proven wrong.

PUMP THE BRAKES: Don't go running out to add Robert Meachem from the waiver wire, on the back of his 3/119/1 day. We've seen this song and dance. A couple of big plays, tantalizing us with upside, and them BOOM! He disappears into the Federal Witness Protection Program. Don't believe the hype, Flavor Flav! While we're at it, who the fuck does Travis Beckum think he is, Joel Dreesen? Please, nothing to see there.

HOT GARBAGE:

QB: Donovan McNabb/CHI: Can anyone be worse than Caleb Hanie? If you are, take two steps forward. Not so fast Tyler Palko. In fact, Hanie is so bad, I'd advise a cursory pickup of McNabb in his wake, even though he's fat, can't run anymore, & hasn't a clue how to navigate a Mike Martz offense. If by chance last week's "Hot Garbage" QB, T. J. Yates is still on your WW, I'd take him over McNabb. How's that for an endorsement ?

RB: Marion Barber/CHI: Forte owners are crushed with their stud back suffering a knee injury (early reporst calling it a torn MCL) that could keep him out for the duration of the fantasy playoffs & beyond, so Marion Barber will get the bulk of the workload in this middling offense. Don't expect much, but assure yourself in the very least that Barber will win the "workload" war.

WR: Demaryius Thomas/DEN: While you can't trust him for the 3 quarters prior to "Tebow Time", you have to love the talent we all hoped we'd see from the former 1st round pick, & with the CHI/NE & BUF defenses all on tap the next three weeks, roll with the divine speculation.

TE: Logan Paulsen/WAS: Pure spec pickup, but with Cooley done for the year, & a 4 game suspension on tap for Fred Davis for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the 6'-8"/ 268 TE out of UCLA is the next man up. If you're the gambling type, pick him up & hope he's the next Jake Ballard.
