August Beer of the Month: New Belgium Brewing Co.'s Red Hoptober Ale

Printer-friendly version

I don't know what it is, but it seems like all of my favorite beers recently have been reds.  Earlier this year I had the pleasure of discovering Founder's Red's Rye PA.  Shortly after that, I fell in love w/ith Lakefront's Fixed Gear.  Well just last week, New Belgium Brewing Company released it's newest fall seasonal: Red Hoptober.  Sweet Sassy Molassey!!!  In case you don't get that reference, you should watch this.  Anyway, this beer is chock full of deliciousness, and as I sip on the last one of the 6-pack right now, I'm starting to get a little bit teary eyed.

This is probably one of the best beers I have ever smelled.  It gives off a very unique citrus scent with subtle floral and caramel hints.  It is truly amazing the aroma that this beer puts off.  When you take a swallow, the first thing that is noticeable is a fruity toffee flavor that very quickly gives way to the bitter hops.  It's a perfect medley of flavors in your mouth.  My oh my...this is a unique, delicious beer.

New Belgium is readily available in most places, so look to add this one to your fall seasonal list.
